Your step towards food & body freedom

23.png

Do you feel like every decision you make is controlled by food rules? By how many calories are in that meal and whether you've done enough to earn it?

Are you fed up of sitting there at the end of the night, tallying up what you've eaten that day to help you determine whether it's been a good or bad day? Only to find yourself coming back to the question "Why can't I control myself around food?"

Does it feel like food has become your go-to whenever you feel stressed, overwhelmed, bored, lonely, angry, anxious....whenever you feel, well, anything?

Perhaps you've tried all the diets out there. Each one promising you'll be happier, more confident, more desirable, more successful, more you... the promises are endless yet they’ve never delivered. And each time you're left feeling more and more like a failure. Like you must be the problem.

Having recovered from 12 years of disordered eating and body image issues myself and having helped countless others understand and make changes to their relationship with food and their body, I get it.

I get...

  • The shame you experience after a binge.

  • The exhaustion you feel from counting calories.

  • The desperation you feel constantly chasing weight loss.

  • The frustration you feel at yourself for not being able to stop the binge.

  • The pervasive feeling of not being enough.

  • The desire to stop feeling controlled by food.

I also know that food and body freedom is possible. That you don't have to spend the rest of your life having your worth dictated by the number on the scale or what you ate for dinner. That you deserve to life a full, authentic life rooted in self-acceptance.

My therapeutic approach is personalised to meet your needs. We'll work with what you bring to therapy. How you understand your issues with food and your body really matters to me and influences our work.

But generally speaking the kind of things that often get explored in food and body image work are:

  • Developing curiosity, rather than shame and judgement, about your relationship with food and your body.

  • How relational experiences and systemic influences contribute to the beliefs you have about food and your body.

  • Building a sense of safety in your body so you feel better able to trust yourself rather than abandon yourself when life gets tough.

  • Looking at how certain thought patterns (like all or nothing thinking and magical thinking) contribute getting stuck in certain eating patterns like the binge-restrict cycle.

  • How to express and regulate your emotions more effectively without food being the only tool.

  • Challenging the inner critic and working towards speaking to yourself with more kindness, respect and self-compassion.

  • Finding meaning and worth beyond your body and your dinner plate.

I also draw on my skills, knowledge and experience gained from working for Beat, the UK's leading Eating Disorder charity. This includes using CBT-E based skills (recommended by the NICE guidelines for working with eating disorders), Motivational Interviewing and the New Maudsley approach.

Plus I have additional training in Intuitive Eating skills which I can may bring into our work if this feels right for you.
