Start to feel you again...

Domestic Abuse and Sexual trauma leaves you feeling lost, broken, ashamed, weak, scared and alone.

It flips reality on its head and shatters your sense of self. It takes away your ability to trust, not only others but to trust yourself and your own judgement. In return it leaves you with self-doubt, uncertainty and sense of helplessness.

Perhaps you've experienced this and you feel like you don't know who you are anymore. You feel like a shell of your former self, or you've started acting in ways which you don't recognise as you anymore. This is confusing and disorienting.

Or maybe you find yourself zoning out a lot. Like you're dissociated and numb. Unable to feel and connect with others in the way you used to.

Many people who’ve experienced domestic abuse and sexual violence find themselves left with endless questions.

  • What did I do to deserve to be treated like this?

  • How did I miss the red flags?

  • Why didn't I leave?

  • Why didn't I fight back?

  • Did I do something to encourage it?

  • What could I have done to stop it?

  • Why me?

The thing is with all these questions is they wrongly place the blame on you and keep you stuck in a painful maze of "what ifs" that you don't feel able to get out of.

If this feels relatable, then first I want you to know - you didn't deserve it. Ever.

Second, I want you to know that it is possible to start feeling safer in yourself and the world again.

Third - you don't have to try navigate all of it alone.

Therapy can give you a safe space to process what happened and refind yourself. We will go at a pace which is right for you. You'll never be forced to talk about anything before you're ready and I will meet you each session which what you want to talk about.

It's really important to me that you feel you have agency over our sessions but to give you an idea of how therapy can help here are some things that might be useful to explore together:

  • Understanding how the nervous system responds to threat and normalising the trauma response.

  • Restoring a sense of safety and trust in yourself and your body.

  • Grounding and regulation practices.

  • Processing traumatic experiences in a safe and controlled way.

  • Developing compassion for yourself and place blame where it belongs, on the perpetrator.

  • Explore relational patterns, personal boundaries and healthy relationships.

  • Rebuilding your sense of self which acknowledges the role abuse has played but builds a self-worth and identity beyond it.

  • Finding meaning and purpose for your future.
